Femoral Fractures in Infants and Young Children – When Should Abuse Be Considered?

Jamie Hoffman-Rosenfeld, MD

Our goal is a concise, comprehensive overview of femoral fractures in infants and young children with these objectives:

  • Review the definition of fractures and potential mechanisms of the different types of long-bone fracture
  • Analyze a case of a femur fracture in a toddler
  • Review likelihood of abuse when a femur fracture is diagnosed

Dr. Hoffman-Rosenfeld, MD, is an Albert Einstein College of Medicine faculty member and an Associate Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at State University of New York Purchase College. She is a specialist in Child Abuse Pediatrics and active in the New York Chapter of the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children.
