You may recall from the previous slide that there were 200 infants in this study who were definitely abused and 55 of them had sentinel injuries, making the incidence of sentinel injury, 27.5% in this group. I think that the next logical question is what are the sentinel injuries that this group identified so that we can be on the lookout for them? Well, in that group of 55 infants, 80% of the kids who had sent an injuries had bruising. This is really important and we're going to talk about this in a little bit again. 11% of them had intraoral injuries. So that would be things like injury to the tongue itself. Or to the labial or lingual frenula. Or to the buccal mucosa. Or the palette, any type of injury within the mouth. And then they had another category of other injury, which was primarily fractures. But by far and away, you can see that the bruising is 10 times approximately or eight to 10 times as common as the other types of sentinel injuries.
