The findings on neuroimaging to be noted in abusive head trauma are subdural blood, often extending over the convexities and into the interhemispheric fissure. The appearance will depend on the modality used. The left image is a T1 weighted MRI of the head with evidence of posterior subdural blood on both sides which is greater on the left and extending into the interhemispheric fissure. The second image is a T2 weighted MRI of a different patient with large anterior bilateral subdural and subarachnoid blood extending posteriorly. While not demonstrated here, deep hemorrhages and axonal injuries may also be seen.
